|---|---|
| Date | 1907–1908 |
| Medium | oil and gold leaf on canvas (180 × 180 cm) |
| City | Vienna |
| Location | Österreichische Galerie Belvedere, Vienna — permanent display |
Painted at the height of Klimt's 'Golden Period', The Kiss shows a couple enveloped in gold-patterned robes kneeling on a flower meadow at the edge of a flowery abyss.
Klimt exhibited it at the 1908 Kunstschau in Vienna, and what is now the Belvedere purchased it directly from that exhibition while it was still unfinished.
It remains the icon of Vienna's fin de siècle and the museum's best-known holding.
