Guimard signed his contract with the Compagnie du Métropolitain in 1899 and supplied entrance surrounds across the new network from 1900.

The Porte Dauphine édicule, with its fan-shaped 'dragonfly wing' glass canopy, is the only covered entrance surviving unrestored-in-situ on its original site, and one of three dragonfly-roofed entrances remaining on the network.

It was completely restored in October 1999 for the Métro centenary and registered as a monument historique by decree of 12 February 2016.
