In 1904 industrialist Josep Batlló commissioned Gaudí to transform an existing town house, and by 1906 the architect had produced the undulating façade of sandstone and broken-ceramic trencadís, skeletal upper floors and the arched dragon-back roof terrace.
Nearly every element, from the marine-lit Noble Floor courtyard to the mushroom-shaped fireplace room, follows geometry derived from nature.
UNESCO inscription followed in 2005.
